Michael Stuart and Tianna Ayulo Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Dec. 3, 2018) – Men's basketball junior Michael Stuart and women's basketball sophomore Tianna Ayulo have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending December 2, the Athletic Department announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Stuart, a junior guard, averaged a team-high 18.5 points-per-game last week. The native of Port St. Lucie, Florida, also led the Wildcats with eight assists. Stuart finished the week shooting 62.5 percent from the floor (10-of-16) while converting 9-of-13 attempts from 3-point range. He was also a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. Stuart opened the week with a career-high 26 points on 8-of-9 shooting from 3-point range to go along with a 2-of-2 performance from the free-throw line while registering a team-high five assists. The eight made treys were the most by a Wildcat in a single game since Frank Bennett drained nine versus Ave Maria (1/30/16). The first-year Wildcat added an 11-point performance versus the Gyrenes on Saturday for his fifth double-digit game of the season. On the year, Stuart is averaging 11.0 points-per-game on 52.8 percent shooting from the floor. He is shooting 52.4 percent from 3-point range (No. 2 in the conference and No. 15 in the nation) and is fifth in the conference in 3-pointers made-per-contest (2.75).  

Ayulo, a sophomore forward, finished the week averaging 17.0 points-per-game and 6.0 rebounds-per-contest. The native of Hollywood, Florida, also notched three steals, two blocks, and a team-high 10 assists. Shooting 43.3 percent from the floor this past week, Ayulo opened up action with an 11-point performance at Southeastern. She added five boards and a game-high eight assists versus the Fire. Two days later, Ayulo notched her third 20-point outing of the season, scoring 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting versus Ave Maria. The second-year Wildcat posted seven rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes of action. On the year, Ayulo is averaging 19.0 points-per-game (No. 3 in the conference and No. 14 in the nation) on 47.9 percent shooting from the floor (tied for No. 4 in the conference and No. 43 in the nation). She leads the team in rebounding (9.0 boards-per-game; No. 3 in the conference and No. 31 in the nation), steals (23; No. 5 in the conference and No. 40 in the nation) and assists (30; No. 8 in the conference).

Honorable mention: JoNae Gonzales-Smith (women's basketball) – Averaged 15.5 points-per-game last week; Alexis McClain (women's basketball) – Posted 12.5 points-per-game and 6.0 rebounds-per-contest; Jacknelson Joseph (men's basketball) – Scored a season-high-tying 16 points versus Ave Maria (12/1); Willem Vermylen (men's basketball) – Led JWU in rebounding, averaging 8.0 boards-per-game.
