Wildcats Improve to 3-0
The Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University took their show on the road as they were hosted by the Falcons of Florida College. The Wildcats continued their winning ways, roaring past the Falcons, 83-74 improving their record to 3-0.
JWU came out aggressive, too aggressive resulting in 15 first half fouls. The Wildcats relied on strong bench play to cling to a one point 36-35 halftime lead as starters So. Craig Wong (Davie, FL) and Jr. Reynald Daniel (Deltona, FL) each got into foul trouble early accruing 3 first half fouls. Wong would later foul out with 12 minutes remaining in the second half. Both the Wildcats and the Flacons had a good half shooting wise connecting on just under 50% from the field.
The Wildcats out of the break on fire hitting 3 of their first 5 baskets to begin to pull away. The foul trouble continued into the second half finishing with 28 fouls and the aforementioned Wong fouling out. JWU was led by Sr. Carlos Montilla (Cocoa, FL) who finished with a game high 27 pts, 5 rbs, 4 ast, 4 blks, and 3 stls. When asked what he accreded tonight's victory to he stated, "We played hard, and even when they started catching up we just dug deep and gave it all we had. This team is built on heart, work ethic and trusting each other to do the right thing. That's what coach has preached to us since day one." Also in double figures for the Wildcats was Wong with 14 and So. Myles Smith (Davie, FL) tallying the same.
Johnson & Wales University will be off until November 19, they will play their home opener against Florida Christian College, this will be a rematch from the season opener, W84-73. Be sure to come out and support your Wildcats at Miami Country Day.
