The JWU men's basketball season came to an end in the Sun Conference Tournament after 76-67 loss to Southeastern University.
JWU fell behind by as much as eight points in the first half but battled back behind the play of freshman Jumaoke Smith, Luke Walters and Joe Lopez to take a 34-32 lead at the break. Smith had 14 points at the half to lead the Cats.
Southeastern came out of the locker room on fire and the Wildcats seemed rattled by the run. Trailing 47-41 the Cats came roaring back with consecutive threes by Lopez and Walters. Southeastern went on another run to take a 61-54 lead however the Wildcats kept storming back and cut the lead to 61-59 with four minutes left. That would be the closest JWU would get the rest of the way.
Walters finished with a game-high 23 points. Smith had a career-high 19 points. Lopez wrapped up his career with a 13 point and 9 rebound effort.
"I thought the guys really battled for 40 minutes. Missing Myles definitely hurt us from an offensive standpoint but we had a lot of guys step up in his absence. We went down with a fight and that is all you can ask from the guys is to play with energy and enthusiasm each game. We did that tonight so they should be proud" said Coach David Graham.
JWU finished the season 12-17 on the year.
