Jr Frank Bennett fell one three-pointer shy of tying the JWU school-record for threes made in one game as went eight for eleven from downtown. He lead the Wildcats with 30 points on the night.
The Wildcats flew out of the gate starting the game on a 15-2 run. Bennett had two threes to spark the run. Jr Antwan Hill hit back to back threes as well to put JWU ahead by 18 with ten minutes left in the first half. Sr. Luke Walters and So. Ricardo Suarez keyed another run to put the Cats up 52-22 at the break.
JWU started slow in the second half but found their stride again after three more 3-pointers by Bennett. A breakaway dunk by Suarez got the crowd rolling. That was the first of four second half dunks for the Wildcats. The Wildcats cruised to the win the remainder of the way.
JWU had four players finish in double figures with Bennett's 30 points, Suarez with 12 and Walters and Fr. Eric Mendia chipping in 10 apiece. Suarez led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds. Sr. Tariq Martin had six rebounds.
"I like the way the guys shared the ball tonight. We had some extra pass assists that we will need to continue to seek as we move into conference season. I think we are starting to understand that we need both ends of the floor working together as one unit. We need continous improvement in all phases of the game in order to challenge the best teams in the NAIA" said Coach David Graham.
JWU hosts NAIA #5 Northwood University in the first game of the conference season on Saturday, December 6 at 4pm.
