JWU wrapped up their regular season with a 77-65 win over cross-town rival Florida Memorial. The Wildcats move on to the 2016 Sun Conference Tournament where they will host the sixth seed on Thursday, February 25 at 7pm in the Wildcat Center.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead behind the play of Jr. Ricardo Suarez (Miami FL) and Sr. Ralph Nin (Miami FL). JWU trailed at the half 31-30. Suarez had 10 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge.
The second half saw the Wildcats build a quick ten point cushion at 52-42 however the Lions battle back to cut the lead to 65-61 with just under four minutes remaining. However the Cats answered back with a big three and jumpshot from Jr Frank Bennett (Naples FL) to go ahead by nine. Suarez iced the game with free throws down the stretch.
"We talked all week about bringing a winning spirit and aggressiveness to the court for 40 minutes. We had some great stretches where we did that today" said Head Coach David Graham. "Now we need to have a great week of preparation as we get ready for the conference tournament. I am proud of the guys and what they did to put themselves in position to host a playoff game for the second straight year in a very tough conference"
Suarez led the Wildcats with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Bennett added 18 points.
