JWU came out hot against crosstown rival Florida Memorial University and never turned back as they blitzed the Lions 77-48 at the Wildcat Center to sweep the regular season series. JWU had beaten FMU, 87-75, on January 26 as well.
A balanced attack on offense and tough defense sparked the Wildcats in the first half as they built a double digit lead. FMU would cut the lead to ten points however a three-pointer by So. Nick Preradovic assisted by Sr. Josh Medina and a layup by Sr. Ricardo Suarez pushed the lead back to 16 points at 41-25 going into the half.
JWU quickly raced to a 20 point advantage early in the 2nd half behind an assortment of threes, layups and a monster dunk by Sr. Tevis Robinson that electrified the Wildcat Center crowd. Sr. Jonathan Lafontant and Preradovic hit two threes to put the Wildcats up 68-41 as JWU emptied the bench in the final minutes.
"We came ready to battle tonight against a very good Florida Memorial team. We've asked our guys to focus in on playing their best basketball at this time of the year as a team. Both in practice and on the game floor. We took a big step toward that goal tonight" said Head Coach David Graham in his post-game press conference.
Preradovic led the Cats in the scoring department with 18 points. Suarez chalked up another double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as he is playing his best basketball of the season. Sr. TJ Johnson led the way with 5 assists.
JWU hosts Thomas University on Senior Day this Saturday, Feb 18 as the Wildcats honor Ricardo Suarez, Tevis Robinson, TJ Johnson, Josh Medina and Jonathan Lafontant. Game time is 4pm at the Wildcat Center
