Men’s Basketball Unable to Hold Off No. 11 Southeastern, 70-67

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Nov. 30, 2017) – Leading by as many as 19 points and holding an edge on the scoreboard for nearly 30 minutes, the Johnson & Wales men's basketball team (1-7, 1-2 TSC) were unable to fend off the No. 11-ranked Southeastern Fire (7-1, 3-0 TSC), falling in Sun Conference action, 70-67, Thursday night.

The Wildcats held a 42-26 lead following the first 20 minutes of action, but a 15-3 run by the Fire in the final eight minutes of action gave SEU its first lead (66-65) since the 12:27 mark in the first half. Unable to regain the lead, JWU dropped its fourth one-possession game of the year.

Nick Preradovic led all Wildcats with 22 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Isa Brandon notched his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing a game-high 13 boards. Brandon also tallied a career-high six blocks on the night. Gino Fils-Aime added 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting while corralling seven rebounds.

The Wildcats finished the night shooting 43.6 percent from the floor (24-of-55) and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3-point range. SEU shot 41.3 percent from the field (22-of-53) and was 4-of-12 from downtown (33.3 percent). Southeastern scored 21 points off 17 JWU turnovers.

The Wildcats will travel to Ave Maria, Florida, to take on the Gyrenes on Saturday, Dec. 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
