Men’s Basketball Falls to Florida Memorial, 75-73

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Dec. 7, 2017) – The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team (2-8, 2-3 TSC) dropped a tough decision to the Florida Memorial Lions (5-3, 2-2 TSC), 75-73, in Sun Conference action on Thursday night.

The result marked the team's fifth one-possession loss of the season. JWU held an 11-point lead with 5:49 left in the game but the Lions used a 16-3 run to close out the game and hand the Wildcats their third conference loss of the season.

JWU was led Gino Fils-Aime who posted 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Fils-Aime also collected eight rebounds and had a game-high four steals. Isa Brandon notched his sixth double-double of the season with a 19-point, 13-rebound performance versus FMU. Rounding out the JWU leading scorers was Nick Preradovic with 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting, including two treys.

The Wildcats shot 43.4 percent from the floor (23-of-53) and was 7-of-23 from 3-point range (30.4 percent). JWU converted 20-of-25 attempts from the free-throw line. The Lion finished the night, shooting 44.1 percent from the floor (26-of-59) was drained eight 3-pointers. FMU struggled from the charity stripe, shooting just 60.0 percent (15-of-25).

JWU will travel to Miami Gardens to take on St. Thomas on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tipoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
