BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Jan. 20, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team (5-16, 3-8 TSC) fell in overtime to Coastal Georgia (14-7, 6-5 TSC), 85-81, on Saturday afternoon.
In a tightly-contest game, the Wildcats tied the game at 69-69 following a pair of made free throws by Gino Fils-Aime with eight seconds left in the game. The Mariners had a pair of chances in the final second of the game for the go-ahead bucket but a strong defensive effort by JWU forced overtime. Coastal Georgia out-scored JWU, 16-12, in overtime for the four-point victory.
Fils-Aime led JWU with a career-high 27 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. He also led the Wildcats with five assists. Isa Brandon tallied his 12th double-double of the season and second of the week, scoring 23 points and registering a game-high 12 rebounds. Brandon was 6-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-3 from 3-point land. Brandon was also 8-of-10 from the line. Also scoring in double figures were Antonio Ruby (10 points) and Jack Joseph (10 points).
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 41.9 percent from the floor (26-of-62) and were 9-of-36 from downtown (25.0 percent). JWU was hot from the free-throw line, shooting 83.3 percent (20-of-24). Coastal Georgia ended the campaign shooting 43.3 percent from the floor (29-of-67) and 33.3 percent from 3-point range (10-of-30). The Mariners also shot well from the free-throw line making 70.8 percent of their attempts. JWU scored 19 points off of 17 CGU turnovers but were out-rebounded 50-31.
The Wildcats return home to host Ave Maria on Thursday, January 25. Tipoff from the Wildcat Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
