– The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (0-1) dropped its season-opening contest versus Benedictine at Mesa (1-0), 100-73, Monday evening in Mesa, Arizona.

Three Wildcats reach double-figures in scoring led by senior Jacknelson Joseph, who posted 19 points on 4-of-10 shooting from 3-point range and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line. Freshmen Dwayne Adams and Tristan Stephens added 12 points each. Adams drained a team-high five free throws while Stephens finished the night 5-of-12 from the floor. Sophomore Gustav Ling led JWU with seven boards.

A 24-point deficit at the half was too much for the Wildcats to overcome as JWU finished the contest shooting 34.3 percent from the floor and 28.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Redhawks converted 58.9 percent of their shots from the floor and were 58.3 percent from downtown.

Benedictine at Mesa outrebounded JWU, 48-28, and made 11 more free throws than the Wildcats.

JWU will take on Embry-Riddle (AZ) on Tuesday night in Prescott, Arizona. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
