Doubleheader at Florida Memorial Set for Thursday

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Dec. 5, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's and women's basketball teams head to Miami Gardens to take on the Florida Memorial Lions in a Sun Conference doubleheader on Thursday, December 6. The women will tip off the night at 6:00 p.m. followed by an 8:00 p.m. tilt for the men from the FMU Wellness Center.

JWU Women's Basketball

Last time out: The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (3-6, 0-4 TSC) dropped its Sun Conference home opener with a 61-52 loss to (rv) Ave Maria (10-1, 4-0 TSC) on Saturday afternoon. Led by sophomore Tianna Ayulo's 23 points, the Wildcat shot 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the floor versus the Gyrenes. Ayulo was 8-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. The native of Hollywood, Florida, converted 5-of-9 shots from the free-throw line for her third 20-point outing of the season. Ayulo also added seven rebounds and two assists. Senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith contributed 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting in 36 minutes of action. Junior Lexie Jackson led JWU in rebounding, corralling eight boards. The native of Indio, California, also added two steals and two blocked shots. Freshman Carol Hadnot registered a game-high five steals versus AMU. The native of Oceanside, California, tallied a career-high seven rebounds to go along with three assists.

JWU Men's Basketball

Last time out: Draining five treys, Jacknelson Joseph scored a season-high-tying 16 points as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (0-8, 0-4 TSC) fell to the Ave Maria Gyrenes (7-3, 2-2 TSC), 80-63, on Saturday afternoon. The Miami product went 5-of-11 from downtown to go along with a 1-of-2 afternoon from the charity stripe to notch his fourth double-digit outing in points this season. Joseph also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists in the contest. Three other Wildcats scored in double-figures as Dwayne Adams, Michael Stuart, and Willem Vermylen each added 11 points versus the Gyrenes. Adams totaled a team-high four assists while Vermylen led JWU with nine rebounds.
