Titan Invitational
The JWU Men's Golf team more than competed in a tough field for three rounds in cold, rainy, and windy conditions for three rounds an an equally tough golf course, finishing 2nd place at the Titan Invitational hosted by Brevard Community College.
After the first two rounds, the Wildcats were five strokes behind the host school, Brevard CC. The team shot very well the final round; however, Brevard held their five stroke lead by shooting even par. Joonas Hinkkannen (Finland) and Chris Hawley (MA) both shot 2 over par for the tournament placing 2nd place in the individual standings. Joonas and Chris shot very important final rounds of 68 and 72 to lead the team. They were one stroke off the winner who shot 1 over par for the tournament.
Coach James Palmer was very happy with how well his players played through the miserable conditions. "It was miserable out there, but they played strong throughout the heavy rains, cold, and high winds. Again, though, the second round hurt us. We have to be stronger in the first day playing 36 holes. Having to record a score in the 80s for a tournament, will set a team back. We came close to closing the deal with a solid final round, but the 2nd round scores really hurt us in the tournament. It's always disappointing to play well in the final round but come up short. I was happy with the guys' effort in the final day to try and win. It showed me that they can turn it on when they really need to. Also, it was very nice of the Brevard's Head Coach, Jamie Howell, to recognize Coach Dave Adamonis in the award ceremony."
The Cats will be back at it in their first conference tournament in Lake Wales, FL playing in the Webber Invitational, Start 2 Finsh this weekend (Feb 6).
