Men’s Golf Places Sixth at The Battle at the Shores

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (April 3, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales men's golf team took on a field of 17 teams, featuring 16 NCAA Division II schools, including six ranked in the Top 25, and finished sixth overall during the Battle at the Shores Monday and Tuesday at Normandy Shores Golf Club's (par 71, 6,733).

The event, hosted by Barry University (D-II - No. 7 by GolfStat), was a two-day affair and included Florida Southern (D-II – No. 2 by GolfStat), Nova Southeastern (D-II – No. 3 by GolfStat), Florida Tech (D-II – No. 5 by GolfStat), Lynn (D-II – No. 6 by GolfStat), and Central Oklahoma (D-II – No. 10 by GolfStat).

The Wildcats shot a seven-over (281-299-279, 859) for the team's 12th Top-6 finish of the year. The Wildcats placed behind six of Division II's Top-10 teams but defeated No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma by 19 strokes.

Leading the way for JWU was Alex Rainville, who was the Wildcat's top finisher at tied for 16th. The native of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, shot a one-over (67-76-71, 214) for the tournament. Following Rainville were senior Jake Bauer (69-75-71, 215) and Gustav Tegal (72-74-68, 215), both shooting a two-over and tied for 20th.  Cody Booska placed tied for 23rd, shooting a three-over (73-75-68) while Jens Bendiksen placed tied for 56th with a 16-over (75-75-79, 229).

The Wildcats next head to Rocky Face, Georgia for the Roadrunner Classic hosted by Dalton State April 9-10.
