JWU Men’s Golf Begins Quest for National Championship on Tuesday

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (May 14, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales men's golf team will travel to Silvis, Illinois, to take part in the 67th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships beginning tomorrow at TPC Deere Run.

The Wildcats are making their 18th-consecutive appearance in the national championships tournament after earning an at-large bid as the No. 7-ranked team in the nation.

JWU will begin first-round action as part of the first group on tee No. 1 on Tuesday. The Wildcats will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET with Max Major leading things off. Casey Mills will tee off 10 minutes later at 8:40 a.m. followed by Cody Booska at 8:50 a.m. Jake Bauer is slated for a 9:00 a.m. tee time with Alex Rainville completing JWU's tee times at 9:10 a.m. The Wildcats are paired with Oklahoma City (ranked No. 1) and Taylor (Ind.) (ranked No. 11).

On the year, the Wildcats have produced a season stroke average of 290.98 over 14 events. The Wildcats finished fourth in last month's TSC Men's Golf Championship, marking the team's ninth Top-5 finish in 2017-18. During the 2017-2018 campaign, JWU has amassed 19 individual top-10 finishes with 11 Top-5 results, and two medalists.

Rainville, a 2018 All-TSC selection, leads the team with a season stroke average of 72.36 over 39 rounds. The native of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, has collected six Top-5 finishes and a pair of tournament wins. Rainville currently ranks No. 12, nationally, by GolfStat. Bauer comes into Tuesday's action with a season stroke average of 72.68 in 14 total events. The 2018 All-TSC honoree has recorded two Top-5 results this season. Bauer, a native of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, ranks No. 18 in the latest GolfStat rankings.

Booska holds a 72.78 season stroke average, appearing in 13 events for the Wildcats this season. The product of Turners Falls, Massachusetts, has registered three Top-5 finishes while being named an All-TSC selection as the 25th-ranked player in the nation by GolfStat. Mills, who is ranked No. 74 by GolfStat, has notched a 75.82 season stroke average in four appearances. Major, a native of Rutland, Vermont, has totaled a season stroke average of 75.57 in five events during the 2017-18 campaign. Major is coming off a season-best performance of ninth place during the TSC Championship, posting an even par (216), while his third-day score of 69 tied for his season-best round of the year.

A constant in the NAIA National Championship Tournament, JWU has nine Top-5 finishes including a first-place finish in 2005. The National Championship title was claimed as the Wildcats shots a four-day total of 1,133 (-19); 28 strokes better than second-place Oklahoma Christian. Played at Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe, Kansas, (May 24-27, 2005), the NAIA National Championships saw JWU also claim the individual title as James Renner shot a seven-under-par (75-67-68-71, 281).
