McDoom’s Brace Propels Wildcats Past Warriors

Johnson and Wales University Wildcats (4-1, TSC 1-0) started their conference play on the right foot, by defeating Webber International University Warriors (2-2, TSC 0-1) 2-0.

The Wildcats were able to find the back of the net within 10 minutes of the match, when a free kick by Patricio Rolon found Greg McDoom, who then rifled it into the back of the net from 6 yards out. The half ended 1-0 with JWU outshooting Webber 11-4.

Second half started after a 40-minute weather delay, and Webber wasted no time high pressing the Wildcats. After the first 10 minutes, the pressure finally wore off when Rolon passed the ball to Valentin Salinas in the middle of the field. Salinas was able to put a beautiful through ball to Greg McDoom. McDoom was able to tuck it in second post to complete his brace.

"It is great relief to finally put the ball in the back of the net." McDoom said. "Hopefully I can keep it up for the rest of the season."

Notes:

  • McDoom scored his first 2 goals of the season
  • This is 4th win in a row, after losing the first game of the season to #16 Vanguard
  • JC Diego and Jesse Della Porta combined to give JWU their third shutout.
