Wildcats Unable to Overcome Early Deficit; Fall to LSU Alexandria, 2-1

MARIETTA, Ga. (September 3, 2018)
– Senior Rodrigo Doben scored his first goal of the season with a header in the first half but it was not enough as the Johnson & Wales men's soccer team (1-2) fell to the LSU Alexandria Generals (3-0-0), 2-1, on Monday afternoon during the Grizzly Soccer Classic hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College.

Falling behind 2-0 in the first half, JWU got on the board with a strike by Doben in the 41st minute to cut the General's lead in half. The goal came off a free kick by Nicolas Gomez giving the first-year Wildcat his first collegiate assist. For Doben, it marked the second goal of his JWU career and third of his collegiate career.

Goals by Gonzalo Rodriguez Jugo (third minute) and Gylles Mitchel (39th minute) led to LSUA's 2-0 lead.

Following Doben's goal, the JWU offense increased its pressure on the General's backline. During the final 45 minutes of action, the Wildcats created a number of scoring chances, tripling their shot total from the first half. In all JWU, outshot LSUA, 12-10, with eight different Wildcats registering at least one shot in the contest. Leading the way was freshman Fernando Arzeno, who recorded three shots with one on net.

Junior Gonzalo Rudolf (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing two goals while making two saves in 45 minutes of action. Freshman Jhon Perez saw action in the second half, collecting two saves.

The Wildcats will next take part in the Faulkner Invitational (Sept. 7-8) hosted by Faulkner University. The Wildcats will begin action versus the Eagles on Friday, September 7. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
