Men’s Soccer Wins Fourth-Straight; Downs Ave Maria, 5-1

– Senior Patricio Rolon scored two of the Wildcat's five goals as the Johnson & Wales men's soccer team (6-2-0, 3-0-0 TSC) defeated the Ave Maria Gyrenes (4-7-1, 1-2-1 TSC), 5-1, on Wednesday evening.

The win marked the team's fourth-straight as the Wildcats remain one of four teams undefeated in Sun Conference action.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first half following a goal by Rolon in the 12th minute. Freshman Fernando Arzeno set up the score to earn an assist on the score. The goal was the third of the year for the native of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Rolon scored his second goal of the game in the 49th minute. It marked the first multiple-goal game of the season for Rolon and tied his career-high for goals in a game (set versus Ave Maria on September 27, 2017). Fellow senior Valentin Salinas was credited with his third assist of the season on the score.

JWU added two more goals with a score by Arzeno in the 74th minute and another in the 80th minute by Salinas.

Ave Maria got on the board following an own goal in the 85th minute. The Wildcats responded with their fifth and final goal as sophomore Franco Molina notched his second goal of the season in the 89th minute.

Freshman Jhon Perez earned his fourth win of the season made three saves in 80 minutes of action.

For the match, the Wildcats outshot the Gyrenes, 17-13, including a 9-6 edge on net.

JWU will travel to Lakeland, Florida, to take Southeastern on Saturday, September 29. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
