MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Oct. 24, 2018)
– A goal in the 84th minute by Bobcat midfielder Pedro Silva broke a 1-1 tie, resulting in a 2-1 loss on Senior Day for the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's soccer team (7-6-0, 4-4-0 TSC) versus St. Thomas (7-6-2, 6-1-2 TSC) Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to the start of the match, JWU honored Jeronimo Este, Pedro Arias, Lucas Azevedo, Rodrigo Doben, Arthur Mesquita, Tim Petersen, Patricio Rolon, Valentin Salinas, Ruben Tejeda, and Brian Vidales, who were playing in the final regular-season home match of their Wildcat careers.

After a quiet first half, in which neither team recorded much offensively, STU got on the board in the 50th minute. After an unsuccessful clearance of a St. Thomas corner kick, JWU was on its heels as the ball pinged around the six-yard box. Freshman Jhon Perez made a successful save on a shot by STU's Harry Molyneux, however, the result of the diving save put the first-year keeper out of position as midfielder Santeri Bergman collected the rebound and found the back of the net.

JWU responded in the 78th minute with a goal by Pablo Azzaro. The sophomore registered his first goal of the season, heading the ball off a rebound off the crossbar. Sophomore Felipe Andrade stuck a shot from 22 yards out which hit the crossbar and ricocheted to Azzaro, who made a run into the six-yard box. The JWU native of Buenos Aires flicked a shot past STU goalkeeper Mike Marx to draw the match even. Andrade was credited with his second assists of 2018 on the score.

Six minutes later, the Bobcats broke the tie with a goal by Silva in the 84th minute. On a direct freekick from 20 yards out, Silva took a shot on net, which caromed off the JWU wall to get past Perez. The unlucky redirected goal gave STU the 2-1 lead.

The loss was the third straight for the Wildcat, who currently sit in sixth place in the Sun Conference standings.

For the match, St. Thomas held a 19-13 edge in total shots with a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Wildcats will close out the 2018 regular season at Warner on Saturday, October 27. Game time from Lake Wales, Florida, is set for 6:00 p.m.
