JWU Women's basketball improved to 2-7 in the Sun Conference, toppling 6-4 St. Thomas University 82-76 Saturday evening at Fernandez Center in Miami Garden. This victory was the first time in school history the lady wildcats were able to defeat the bobcats.
Coming from Coach Hope, "This was an amazing win not only for this team this afternoon, but for this program. It's a stepping stone to where we are trying to go and establish ourselves in the sun conference. These ladies played hard for 4 quarters and never focused on the score until the end, and the end result was a victory. I'm very proud of them."
St. Thomas led by as much as 13points in the first half until The Lady Wildcats went on a 15-1 run to take the lead into half up 42-41. The Lady Wildcats were able to out rebound The Lady Bobcats 46-35, and was able to shoot 47% from the field and 60% from behind the arc. Diamond Williams led the way with 29 points 9 rebounds and 5 assist and 4 steal. While both Bevin Mays and Joelle Patterson were solid. Bevin added 16 points 7 rebounds and 2 assist and Joelle contributed 15 points towards the victory.
Come out and support The Lady Wildcats as they will be riding momentum back into action this Thursday against Sun Conference rival 3-7 Warner University game time at 7PM in the Wildcat Center. The last time these two teams matched up the Lady Wildcat took home the victory 66-63 while on the road. This will be a huge game for the lady wildcats because with a win it will allow them to move up in the conference. Then this Saturday the Lady Wildcat's will host 2-9 Webber Int. University for Alumni Weekend tip-off at 2PM.
