JWU Women’s Basketball Opens Season With 62-45 win over Florida College

– The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (1-0) tipped off the 2017-18 season with a 62-45 win over Florida College (0-1) on Friday night at the Tom Golisano Field House on the campus of the Ave Maria University.

JWU point guard Diamond Williams scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, product was also a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Freshman Tianna Ayulo posted her first collegiate double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 33 minutes of action. Ayulo also registered a game-high seven steals.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 20-7 in the first quarter, shooting a blistering 43.8 percent from the floor. The 13-point, first-quarter lead was never in jeopardy as the JWU held Florida College to 31.0 percent shooting (18-of-58) for the game.

JWU scored 23 points off of 26 Florida College turnovers and held the opposition to just four second-chance points. The Lady Wildcats never trailed in the contest.

JWU will continue action in Ave Maria, Florida, taking on Trinity College on Saturday, Oct. 28. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET
