Women’s Basketball Falls to Edward Waters, 75-70

LAKE WALES, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2017) – For the fifth-straight game, the duo of Diamond Williams and Tiana Ayulo each hovered around the 20-point plateau as the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (3-2) dropped a five-point decision to Edward Waters (5-1), 75-70, on Saturday night during the final day of the Lady Royal Classic.

Despite Williams' (20 pts., 7-of-14 shooting, 4 asts.) and Ayulo's (19 pts., 8-of-16 shooting, 7 rebs.) performances, it was a third quarter in which JWU shot just 25.0 percent from the floor (4-of-16) that proved to be the difference as Edward Waters outscored the Lady Wildcats, 18-12. JWU held a 41-39 lead at the half.

"Coming home 0-2 stings," Head Coach Kymberly Hope said. "Offensively, we were just out of sync. Hopefully, we can learn from all of our mistakes from this past weekend and play better moving forward, especially with the start conference play next week versus Coastal Georgia."

With the 20-point night, Williams has scored 20-or-more points in four of the first five games of the season. Ayulo has tallied 19-or-more points in all five contests this season. JoNae Gonzales registered a team-high five assists for JWU.

The Lady Wildcats finished the night shooting 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the floor and was 6-of-20 (30.0 percent) from downtown. Edward Waters converted 44.8 percent from the floor (26-of-58) and drained just one trey on the night.

JWU will return home to take on Coastal Georgia in the team's conference opener on Thursday, Nov. 16. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
