Women’s Basketball Falls to St. Thomas on Late Field Goal, 67-66

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Dec. 9, 2017) – A layup by St. Thomas' Samara Auguste with 14 seconds left in the contest handed the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (4-8, 0-6 TSC) a 67-66 loss to the Bobcats (5-5, 5-0 TSC) on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats, which led for nearly 29 minutes of the game, had two chances to take the lead in the final seconds of the game. However, unable to record the game-winning bucket, JWU dropped its fourth straight.

JWU was led in scoring by Tianna Ayulo, who posted 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Ayulo also registered a game-high seven rebounds. Joining Ayulo in double-digit scoring as well as recording seven boards was Diamond Williams, who registered 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Williams led the Wildcats with five assists. Bevin Mays and JoNae Gonzales each recorded 12 points to round out the team's leading scorers.

JWU finished the afternoon shooting 42.1 percent from the floor (24-of-57) while St. Thomas converted 27-of-68 attempts from the floor (39.7 percent). Both teams recorded 38 rebounds.

The Wildcats will next travel to St. Leo, Florida, to take on the St. Leo Lions on Tuesday, December 12. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
