THOMASVILLE, Ga. (Jan. 18, 2018) – Four Wildcats scored in double-figures as the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (8-11, 4-6 TSC) defeated the Thomas Night Hawks (6-10, 3-8 TSC), 70-56, on Thursday evening.
The win marked the team's fourth-straight victory.
Diamond Williams led all Wildcats with 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the floor. The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, native also recorded a team-high six assists versus the Night Hawks. JoNae Gonzales added 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including a team-best four 3-pointers. Alexis McClain notched 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor while leading JWU with seven rebounds. Tianna Ayulo rounded out the team's double-digit scorers with 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
JWU finished the night shooting 42.9 percent from the floor (27-of-63) and made 8-of-20 from 3-point range (40.0 percent). The Wildcats also added eight points from the charity stripe on 72.7 percent shooting (8-of-11). Thomas converted 35.5 percent from the floor (22-of-62) and struggled from downtown, making just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc (14.3 percent). The Night Hawks also struggled from the free-throw line, converting just 11-of-24 from the charity stripe (45.8 percent).
The Wildcats held a slight edge in rebounding, 43-41, and scored 18 points off 17 Thomas turnovers.
The Wildcats will travel to Brunswick, Georgia, to take on the Coastal Georgia Mariners on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
