NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Feb. 10. 2018) – A career-high 28 points by freshman Tianna Ayulo helped guide the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (10-15, 6-10 TSC) to an 80-70 win over Keiser University (5-22, 2-14 TSC) on Saturday afternoon.
Ayulo was one of four Wildcats to score in double-figures versus the Seahawks. The native of Hollywood, Florida, went 12-of-19 from the floor while grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Ayulo also added four steals and three assists. The 20-point outing was her seventh of the season. Senior Diamond Williams posted 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. The school's all-time leading scorer (1,527 career points) led JWU with seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists. JoNae Gonzales contributed 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. The native of Richmond, California, registered a team-best five steals. Freshman Alexis McClain poured in 10 points, going 4-of-10 from the floor while notching two assists and two steals.
Trailing for just 43 second midway through the first half, the Wildcats used a season-best 20 steals to hold KU at bay for JWU's second-straight Sun Conference win and the season sweep of the Seahawks. The Wildcats shot 51.7 percent from the floor (31-of-60) for the game, including four treys. Keiser shot 46.9 percent from the floor (30-of-64) and made just one 3-pointer in the contest (1-of-11). The Seahawks held a slight 37-34 edge in rebounding while JWU scored 52 of its 80 total points in the paint.
The Wildcats will host the Webber International Warriors on Thursday, February 15. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
