Wildcats Close Out UVI Thanksgiving Classic with an 84-75 Loss to Carlow (Pa.)

– Outscored 19-9 in the fourth quarter, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (3-4) fell to the Carlow (Pa.) Celtics (2-4), 84-75, on Friday morning during the UVI Thanksgiving Classic. The game was the second and final of the tournament for the Wildcats.

For the second straight day, the duo of sophomore Tianna Ayulo and senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith led the team in the scoring, combining for 49 points. Ayulo posted a season-high 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 shooting from the free-throw line. Gonzales-Smith recorded her third-straight game of 20 points-or-more, scoring 23 on 8-of-23 shooting from the floor while converting 6-of-7 shots from the charity stripe.

On the glass, the Wildcats were led by Aulyo, who grabbed seven boards versus the Celtics. Gonzales-Smith and sophomore Andrea Ferbee collected six rebounds apiece to round out the team's leading rebounders.

For the game, JWU shot 41.4 percent from the floor (29-of-70) and was 5-of-22 from 3-point range (22.7 percent). The Wildcats converted 11-of-18 attempts from the free-throw line. Carlow ended the day shooting 49.2 percent from the field (31-of-63) while hitting on 10-of-24 shots from long range (41.7 percent). From the line, the Celtics were 12-of-15 (80.0 percent). Carlow held a 42-37 edge in rebounding while JWU outrebounded the Celtic, 16-13, on the offensive glass.

The Wildcats will return to Sun Conference action, taking on the No. 3-ranked Southeastern Fire on Thursday, November 29. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from the Furnace in Lakeland, Florida.
