W. Soccer Makes History Against USC-Beaufort
Sunday Oct. 16th found the Lady Wildcats (2-11-0, TSC 1-6-0) making history, as they recorded their first conference win for the program. The win came against University of South Carolina-Beaufort (0-12-0, TSC 0-7-0).
The scoring was started by Fr. Left Midfielder Cassandra Boateng (Germantown, MD) for her second goal of the season. Just a few minutes before the half Fr. Forward Orniela Pitt (Brooklyn, NY) notched her fifth goal of the season to give the Lady Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw a range of different JWU players getting on the score sheet. As the half started, Fr. Forward Darcilyn Butala (Port St. Lucie, FL) tallied the third goal of the game. Fr. Center Back Samantha Connealy (Sugarland, TX) got into the act as well as she hit a free kick that found the back of the net. The day finished off with goals from So. Captain and Midfielder Suzy Duffy (Woburn, MA), and one from Fr. Midfielder Jacquelyn Saganich (Shirley, MA). The final was 7-0 and was a great day in the programs history.
"When you are building a program you have to look towards conference play," stated Head Coach Eric Dobrzanski. "It's a way to map out a set of goals for your players and staff. In our first season last year, we finished last in our conference but were competitive. This year our goal was clearly to be even more competitive, which we have been, then to win a conference game. I am just so proud of the ladies. They fought through so much and have continued to believe in what this program is moving towards. They are a confident bunch, even though the record does not do them justice, and we have laid the foundation for current and incoming players. They are now a part of history. This does not happen if we did not have such a great group of players, not just on the field, but they are high character kids."
The Lady Wildcat's game against Clearwater Christian College on Tuesday Oct. 18th was cancelled due to weather. We will keep everyone posted on a makeup date for that match. With the game being cancelled, JWU will now look forward to their upcoming match against conference opponent Webber International University (7-8-0, TSC 3-4-0) on Friday Oct. 21st at 7:30pm. The game will be played at Tamiami Park. We hope to see you all out there.
