Savannah Jackson, the nation's leading goal scorer and Polk County Player of the Year has officially signed with JWU women's soccer. Head Coach Eric Dobrzanski and staff announced the signing on Wednesday April 26th at Savannah's high school, Ridge Community, where she played for Coach Nick Nixon. Savannah led the country with 76 goals, which is her second straight season with 70 goals or more, and helped guide Ridge to a 17-4-3 record. Combined with her goals in club soccer, Savannah has scored over 100 goals over the past two seasons. She finished second in voting for Florida Dairy Farms Miss Soccer (Florida Player of the Year) and was named Class 5A Player of the Year.
"This has been a day we have working towards for a while, we first started recruiting Sav her sophomore year of high school, and we are absolutely thrilled that she has chosen to come play here at JWU," commented Coach Dobrzanski. "It is incredible what she has accomplished throughout her high school and club soccer career, to score over 100 goals the past two seasons is a testament to her work rate and desire to keep improving as a player. Sav goes into every game in club and high school with teams knowing who she is, and she still finds ways to score goals, a lot of them. She is a pure goal scorer; she scores in different ways, which makes her incredibly hard to defend. We are so excited about what she can bring to our program; she can come in and make us an incredibly dangerous attacking team. She never stops moving and makes such well-timed runs in the final third, and that combined with her pace and 1v1 ability makes her extremely dynamic. Today is a big day for our program, and I want to thank her and her family for all their work for the past three years in this recruiting process, I appreciate all of their support."
Savannah and the Lady Wildcats open up the 2017 season with the University of the Virgin Islands at home on Wednesday August 16th. Following their home opener, the Lady Wildcats take a trip to Black Mountain, North Carolina to play Montreat College on Saturday August 19th.
