Keiser University and Southeastern University were tabbed the co-favorites to win the Sun Conference women's soccer championship this season in voting by the league's coaches.
The Seahawks and Fire tied atop the league standings last season with 9-1 marks, but Keiser claimed its second straight regular-season title – and its 11th overall – via its head-to-head win over Southeastern. The Seahawks also won the tournament crown.
The teams received 95 points each in the preseason poll, with Keiser claiming six first-place votes to Southeastern's five. Thomas (75 points) was third, followed by SCAD Savannah (70).
JWU women's soccer were picked 7th, after missing the conference tournament in 2016. The Lady Wildcats return All-Conference Honorable Mention Junior Forward and leading goal scorer Soleil Duplain, and is led by a Senior class of Sydney Smedley, Desiree Rudnick, Kyleigh Grundy and Monica Martinez. The Lady Wildcats were a part of seven 1 goal games last season in Sun Conference play.
The Lady Wildcats kick off their 2017 campaign on the road in Black Mountain, North Carolina, as they take on Montreat College on Saturday August 19th at 7:15pm. The team opens up Sun Conference play on Wednesday Sept. 20th, as they play host to cross-town rival St. Thomas University, kickoff is set for 1pm.
