Florida National Hands @JWUWSoccerNM First Loss of the Season in Double Overtime

The Lady Wildcats women's soccer team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, as they dropped a double overtime result to cross-town opponent Florida National University (2-1).

The Lady Wildcats held a 1-0 advantage until the 82nd minute when an own goal off a FNU set piece tied the game.  JWU's goal was scored by Fr. Savannah Jackson in the 70th minute, with the assist coming from Sr. Kyleigh Grundy.  JWU was unable to find the game winner in regulation or the first overtime.  Two minutes into the second overtime FNU would score the game winner to hand the Lady Wildcats their first loss of the season.  The Lady Wildcats held the advantage in shots, corners and possession, but was unable to convert their chances.

"I give FNU and their staff a lot of credit," commented Head Coach Eric Dobrzanski.  "They had a good game plan and stuck to it even when they fell behind.  It was frustrating because none of us, staff or players, could find the solution, and we did play well, we just had 2 bad moments that led to 2 goals against.  We have a lot to learn from this result and we will use it that way, as a learning experience."

The Lady Wildcats are back in action on Monday Sept. 4th, as the team takes the short trip to Davie, Florida to play NCAA DII opponent Nova Southeastern University (2-0).  Kickoff is set for 7pm, the two teams met last season with NSU earning the 4-0 win.
