The Lady Wildcats women's soccer team (4-4, TSC 1-2) used three first half goals to earn their first conference win of the season, as the team defeated Ave Maria University (0-5, TSC 0-2) by the score of 3-1. The Lady Wildcats jumped to a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the contest, as So. Midfielder Karen Rodriguez found Fr. Forward Savannah Jackson running in behind the AMU backline. Then 16 minutes later Savannah Jackson struck again when Jr. Defender Caterina Yibirin found Jackson off of a service from the end line. JWU would close out the first half scoring in the 29th minute when Karen Rodriguez sent a ball forward for Jr. Soleil Duplain, who would score her first goal of the season. The Lady Wildcats would carry a 3-0 lead into halftime and never look back, AMU would get a goal of their own in the 80th minute. With the win JWU improves to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Sun Conference play.
"I am happy with getting 3 points and the win, but I am not excited with our overall effort and passion for 90 minutes," commented Head Coach Eric Dobrzanski. "We had an opportunity to play a complete 90 minutes today, but we chose to cut corners instead. It's all about what decisions we make every day, and today we made the decision to cut corners and not to play the game the right way, and that is extremely disappointing. I just hope that we can find our passion and drive to be our best by Saturday."
Next on the slate for the Lady Wildcats is Webber International University (4-1, TSC 2-1) this Saturday Sept. 30th at home. Last season saw the Lady Wildcats fall to Webber International 2-1 in double overtime.
