The Lady Wildcats women's soccer team (7-4, TSC 4-2) held on for a crucial 1-0 win over Sun Conference opponent SCAD (7-5-1, TSC 2-3) on Saturday Oct. 7th. The lone goal of the game came 22 seconds into the game, as the Lady Wildcats scored right off the kickoff. The initial ball was played in by So. Karen Rodriguez and led to a service from Jr. Soleil Duplain which found the foot of Fr. Savannah Jackson for Jackson's 14th goal of the season.
After the goal SCAD pressed to find the equalizer and created several quality opportunities in both the first and second half. The Lady Wildcats created several chances of their own and almost put the game out of reach with 8 minutes remaining as Jackson had a 1v1 with the SCAD goalkeeper and missed just wide.
"This group just continues to impress me and the staff," commented Head Coach Eric Dobrzanski. "They are so driven and determined, I just cannot say enough about their performance today. In no way was it perfect or the way team's look to win games, we struggled to get control of the game and SCAD really put us under so much pressure, but our players never gave in and made sure we battled for 90 minutes. So many players stepped up and helped secure this win. Obviously, scoring in the first 22 seconds helps. But I thought our backline did fantastic; Audrey (Gant), Cat (Yibirin), Haylee (Gordon) and Annet (Cea) were incredible and lead our team the whole game, there is no way we win this game without them playing as well as they played. I am just enjoying watching this team play for each other and having fun. This group wants to reach their goals and make a run in the Sun Conference tournament."
Next up for the Lady Wildcats is a trip to take on NAIA #8 Keiser University (10-1-1, TSC 6-0) this Wednesday Oct. 11th at 3pm. The Lady Wildcats dropped last season's matchup with Keiser 2-1 in double overtime.
