Seven PRs and Five TSC Qualifying Marks Highlight Hurricane Alumni Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (April 8, 2018) –The Johnson & Wales track & field team wrapped up competition at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational this past weekend from Cobb Stadium on the campus of the University of Miami.

The Wildcats produced seven personal bests during the two-day event; five of which were Sun Conference Championships qualifying marks.

In the women's track events, Latoya Jennings competed in two events on Saturday, running in the 200m and 400m Dashes. The sophomore posted a pair of PRs with a time of 27.36 (200m) and 1:05.43 (400m). Her time of 27.36 in the 200m bested her previous PR and TSC qualifying mark of 27.96 set earlier this season at the USF Bulls Invitational (March 22-23). Jennings also qualified for the Sun Conference Championships with her 1:05.43 in the 400m. Freshman Kezia Bell appeared in three events on Saturday, setting PRs in the 100m, 200m, and 400m Dashes. Bell posted a time of 13.89 in the 100m, a TSC qualifying time of 1:07.24 in the 400m, and a time of 28.18 in the 200m.

In the women's field events, Taylor Deveaux posted a pair of TSC qualifying marks in the Shot Put and the Discus. The junior recorded a PR in Shot Put (9.68m) while posting a season-best in the Discus (28.81m). Sharell Nairn set a PR in the Long Jump, posting a 4.38m jump for the Wildcats on Friday.  

On the men's side, senior Kyre Kelly took part in the 400m and 800m Dashes. The native of Ruskin, Florida, posted a time of 53.02 in the 400m and a time of 2:10.90 in the 800m.

The Wildcats will now set their sights on the 2018 Sun Conference Championships, beginning April 21 in Miramar, Florida.
