NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (May 11, 2018) – Junior Taylor Deveaux has been named the Sergio's Cuban Café & Grill Player of the Month for the month ending April, the Johnson & Wales Athletic Department announced on Friday.
Deveaux notched the program's first medal in the Women's Javelin during the 2018 Sun Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Miramar, Florida. During the final day of the championships, Deveaux registered a PR of 32.29m to claim the silver and earn eight points for the Wildcats. The junior also competed in Women's Discus and Shot Put. In the Discus, Deveaux placed ninth with a mark of 23.39m. She also placed ninth in the Shot Put with a mark of 9.52m.
During the season, Deveaux has been a force in the field events for the Wildcats. Prior to the TSC Championships, Deveaux recorded a PR of 31.28m in the Javelin at the USF Bulls Invitational to earn a spot in this weekend's championship. The junior also earned a PR and qualifying mark of 9.78m in the Shot Put at the Embry-Riddle First Chance-Last Chance Meet (Feb. 17-18) while producing a PR and qualifying mark of 31.24m in the Discus during last weekend's NC A&T Aggie Invitational (April 13-14).
Deveaux becomes on the third JWU athlete to medal during the Sun Conference Championships (Paul McPherson – 2010 [Gold], 2011 [Bronze] in the Men's 400m; Jessica Mason – 2012 [Bronze] in the 100m Hurdles and 2012 [Gold], 2013 [Silver] in the 400m Hurdles).
Each month during the academic year, a JWU student-athlete will be selected as the Sergio's Cuban Café & Grill Player of the Month based on outstanding athletic accomplishments.
