JWU Volleyball Signs Sierra Mooney

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (July 23, 2018) -- Head Coach James Exley announced on Monday the signing of Sierra Mooney to the Johnson & Wales volleyball program for the 2018 season.

"Sierra is determined, competitive, and plays with a tenacity that wills her teams to finish strong," Coach Exley said.

Mooney, a native of Middleburg, Florida, comes to JWU after spending two seasons at Lake-Sumter State College, playing for Head Coach Amanda Phelps. With the Hawks, Mooney registered 135 kills and a hitting percentage of .278 in 23 matches during her sophomore season (2017). She was named the Region 8 Player of the Week after leading Lake-Sumter to a 3-2 win over Santa Fe on September 16, 2017. Mooney closed out her career with the Lakehawks recording 250 kills, an attack percentage of .256, 18 solo blocks and 96 block assists for 114 total blocks in 47 matches.

Prior to playing for the Lakehawks, Mooney graduated from Middleburg High School where she was an all-conference selection, helping the Broncos to back-to-back Class 6A FHSAA (2013, 2014).

Mooney joins previously announced Vanessa Orozco, Krystal Cuevas, Angelique Davis, Jazmine Richardson, and Vitoria Nicolau to comprise the 2018 volleyball signing class.
