@JWUVBallNM Finishes Second at 2018 Mac Attack Volleyball Classic

– The Johnson & Wales volleyball team (3-1) split its Day Two matches of the 2018 Mac Attack Volleyball Classic to finish second in the five-team tournament hosted by Edward Waters College.

The Wildcats started the day with a 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 25-22, 25-11) loss to Sun Conference foe Florida Memorial. The contest, which was a non-conference matchup, saw sophomore Savannah Swenson lead all Wildcats with 12 kills. The native of Clermont, Florida, registered a .588 hitting percentage, while recorded two total blocks. Junior Sharell Nairn, who was named to the all-tournament team, paced JWU with a .714 hitting percentage (six kills). Junior Sierra Mooney tallied six kills and registered six total blocks. In all, the Wildcats totaled 16 blocks in the match. The loss was the first of the season for JWU.

The Wildcats rebounded with a 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17) win over host-institution Edward Waters in the final match of the tournament. Three Wildcats reached double-figures in kills, including Nairn, who posted 17 in the match. The Miami native finished the match with .714 hitting percentage. Swenson notched 14 kills and had a team-best four digs versus the Tiger while Mooney added 13 kills for her second match with 10-or-more kills on the weekend. Freshman Vanessa Orozco produced a career-best 39 assists in the match. 

The Wildcats will travel Marietta, Georgia, to take part in the 2018 Running Eagle Classic hosted by Life (Ga.) University. The two-day tournament will begin for JWU on Friday, August 31, as the Wildcats will take on Freed-Hardeman in the team's first match. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
