NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales volleyball team (5-6, 0-2 TSC) hosts the Warner Royals (5-7, 1-0 TSC) in the Wildcat's home opener on Saturday, September 15. Game time from the Wildcat Center is set for 2:00 p.m.

JWU comes into Saturday's contest looking to build off a 3-0 sweep of Trinity College (FL) on Thursday evening. The Wildcats were led by junior Sharell Nairn and sophomore Savannah Swenson who each posted eight kills in the match. Both reached double-figures in digs with Nairn registering 15 and Swenson tallying 14. Sophomore Bianca Torres led all Wildcats with 25 digs – two shy of the school record set by Torres versus Trinity College last season (Oct. 19, 2017). Sophomore Anissa Giammona and freshman Vanessa Orozco recorded 13 assists each. The Wildcats totaled 12.5 team blocks led by sophomore Alexis McClain and junior Sierra Mooney, who both registered four solo blocks and one block assist apiece.
On the year, JWU is averaging 10.21 kills-per-set on a team hitting percentage of .169 (No. 3 in the Sun Conference). The Wildcats are averaging 13.05 digs-per-set and are second in the conference in blocks-per-set (1.57). With 100 service aces this season, JWU ranks No. 2 in the conference and No. 12 in the nation in service aces-per-set (2.33).
Swenson leads all Wildcats with 115 total kills, averaging 2.67 kills-per-set. The native of Clermont, Florida also leads JWU with 126 total digs, averaging 2.93 digs-per-set. Joining Swenson for the lead in digs is Torres, who is also averaging 2.93 digs-per-set (126 total).
Closing in on 100: Junior Sharell Nairn is closing in on her 100th-career block. The native of Miami comes into Saturday's contest with 98 total blocks. Currently the program's all-time leader in blocks, Nairn has collected 17 on the year and is averaging 0.40 blocks-per-set.
Series History: Saturday will mark the fifth meeting all-time between JWU and Warner with the Royals leading the series history, 4-0. The last meeting between the two schools resulted in a 3-0 win for Warner on September 28, 2017, in North Miami, Florida.
A Look at Warner: The Royals are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Ave Maria on Wednesday and are currently riding a two-match win streak. Warner is averaging 11.22 kills- and 17.80 digs-per-set. The Royals have a team hitting percentage of .156 and has tallied 41 total blocks on the year.
