@JWUVBallNM Sweeps Trinity, 3-0; Nairn notches 500th-career kill

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Sept.25, 2018)
– The Johnson & Wales volleyball team (7-9) won its fourth-straight non-conference match with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-17) win over Trinity College (FL) (1-11) on Tuesday afternoon from the Wildcat Center.

The Wildcats were led by junior Sharell Nairn, who posted 18 kills with a .387 hitting percentage. The Miami native became the first player in JWU history to record 500 kills, registering her 500th kill early in the first set. Nairn finished the night with 517 career kills. Joining Nairn in double-digit kills was sophomore Savannah Swenson, who tallied 12 kills on a team-best .429 hitting percentage. The native of Clermont, Florida, is currently second on the team (behind Nairn by one) in total kills with 170. Freshman Vanessa Orozco led the team with 35 assists in the sweep in increase her season total to 392 (6.43 assists-per-set). The native of Kissimmee, Florida, also collected 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore Bianca Torres was the team leader in digs with 15 versus the Tigers. The Miami native finished the evening with 199 digs on the season.

The Wildcats ended the match with a team hitting percentage of .299 while Trinity hit .051. JWU held a 43-17 advantage in kills and a 12-2 edge in service aces led by junior Sierra Mooney's four aces.

The Wildcats return to conference action, traveling to Ave Maria, Florida, to take on the Gyrenes. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
