Volleyball Squares Off Florida National in Non-Conference Action Wednesday

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales volleyball team (8-13) takes a break from Sun Conference action, hosting Florida National (11-11) in a mid-week, non-conference battle on Wednesday, October 10. First serve from the Wildcat Center is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Wildcats come into Wednesday's contest averaging 10.32 kills-per-set with a team hitting percentage of .143. JWU is averaging 14.31 digs-per-set and has totaled 113.5 team blocks in 2018.

Leading the team in kills is sophomore Savannah Swenson, who comes into this week's action with 214 (2.82 kills-per-set). The native of Clermont, Florida, also leads the team with 30 service aces and is second on the team in digs, averaging 2.68 dig-per-set. Junior Sharell Nairn is second on the team in kills with 206 this year (2.75 kills-per-set). The product of Miami has recorded a school-record 552 career kills in her three years at JWU. Junior Sierra Mooney is the team leader in blocks, averaging 0.67 blocks-per-set. The Middleburg, Florida, native is three blocks shy of setting the school record for total blocks in a season (53 by Nairn in 2017). Freshman Vanessa Orozco has notched a team-best 500 assists this season. The native of Kissimmee, Florida, has tallied a team-best nine double-doubles in 2018. The squad's leader in digs is sophomore Bianca Torres, who comes into Wednesday's match with 258 (3.39 digs-per-set). The Wildcat libero has registered 700-career digs at JWU.  

Series History: Wednesday's match will mark the seventh meeting all-time between JWU and Florida National with the Conquistadors leading the series history, 6-0. The last meeting between the two schools resulted in a 3-1 win for FNU on September 1, 2017, in North Miami, Florida.
