Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Florida Memorial

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2018)
– The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (9-20, 1-14 TSC) dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-20) decision to Florida Memorial (11-13, 4-11 TSC) on Wednesday evening from Miami Gardens, Florida.

The Wildcats were led by juniors Vitoria Nicolau and Sharell Nairn who posted 11 kills each in the contest. Both also collected seven digs apiece versus the Lions. Sophomore Savannah Swenson tallied a match-high 25 assists while freshman Jazmine Richardson notched team-best 11 digs.

In set one, the Wildcats were led by Nairn's six kills with a .231 hitting percentage. A .111 hitting percentage by JWU coupled with three FMU service aces resulted in a 25-23 win for the Lions and a 1-0 lead in the match. Set two was all Florida Memorial as the Lions hit .318 and produced seven service aces for the 25-15 victory and 2-0 advantage. The Wildcats looked to respond in the third set but seven attack errors were too much to overcome as JWU lost the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

For the match, the Wildcats hit .080 compared to FMU's clip of .241. The Wildcats held a 38-32 edge in total digs while the Lions had more service aces, 13-6.

JWU will head to Brunswick, Georgia, to take on the Coastal Georgia Mariners on Saturday, November 3. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
