Carissa Sanchez and Cody Booska Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2018) – Women's soccer senior Carissa Sanchez and men's golf senior Cody Booska have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending October 15, the Athletic Department announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month.

Sanchez, a forward from Miami, scored her fourth goal of the season with a 13th-minute strike versus Keiser last Wednesday. The score gave JWU an early 1-0 lead over the No. 6-ranked team in the nation and increased Sanchez' season point total to 11 (4g, 3a) – second on the team. The speedy Sanchez got behind the Keiser backline on a breakaway and slotted a shot past the keeper for the score. The first-year Wildcat has scored a goal in three of the team's last four games and has seven points during that span. Sanchez currently ranks No. 9 in the Sun Conference in assists-per-contest (0.37) and is tied for second on the team in goals scored and assists.

Booska, a native of Turners Falls, Massachusetts, recorded a 16th-place finish at the NSU Shark Invitational earlier last week and followed that up with his first tournament victory, earning medalist honors at the 25th Annual Webber Invitational this past weekend. Booska shot a season-low 10-under (73-66-67, 206) to lead JWU to a second-place finish ahead of No. 5 Keiser and No. 6 USCB. Booska's season-best score paced the Wildcats as the senior used a career-low 66 (-6) in the second round and a 67 (-5) in the third round for the first tournament win of his JWU career. The win was the ninth Top-5 finished of his Wildcat career.

Honorable mention: Sharell Nairn (volleyball) – Recorded 2.33 kills-per-set with a team-best .273 hitting percentage; Vanessa Orozco (volleyball) – Has recorded 11 double-doubles this season, including two last week.
