Vanessa Orozco and Fernando Arzeno Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2018) – Volleyball freshman Vanessa Orozco and men's soccer freshman Fernando Arzeno have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending October 28, the Athletic Department announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Orozco, a freshman setter, finished this past week with 84 assists (7.64 assists-per-set) with four service aces and 33 digs (3.00 digs-per-set). The native of Kissimmee, Florida, set the single-season school record for assists, finishing the week with 649. Orozco started the week with a 33-assist performance versus Florida National. She added 16 digs to record her team-leading 12th double-double of the season. Two days later, the first-year Wildcat, set the school record after notching 28 assists versus Johnson University (Fla.). On the year, Orozco is averaging 6.8 assists-per-set (No. 4 in the Sun Conference) with 26 service aces and 242 digs.  

Arzeno, a freshman striker, notched the first hat trick of his collegiate career this past week as JWU finished the 2018 regular season with the highest win total (8) since the 2013 season. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, scored all three goals in the second half as the Wildcats downed the Warner Royals in the regular season finale on Saturday. During the contest, the first-year striker converted his fifth penalty-kick attempt of the season – a single-season school record. With three goals on Saturday, Arzeno moved his season total to 10 goals in 2018 – the most by a Wildcat since the 2013 season. His performance helped JWU solidify a spot in this year's Sun Conference Men's Soccer Championship – the program's second-straight and third all-time. On the year, Arzeno has registered a team-high 21 points on 10 goals and one assist. He leads the team in total shots (40) and shots on goal (23) and has recorded two game-winning goals this past year.

Honorable mention: Savannah Swenson (volleyball) – Led the team with 30 kills (2.73 kills-per-set this past week; Vitoria Nicolau (volleyball) – Averaged 2.36 kills-per-set with a team-best .217 hitting percentage; Valentin Salinas (men's soccer) – Recorded sixth assist of the season; Patricio Rolon (men's soccer) – Tallied his sixth assist of 2018; Pablo Azzaro (men's soccer) – Scored first goal of the season last Wednesday;
