NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2018) – Women's basketball forward Tianna Ayulo has been named the Sergio's Cuban Café & Grill Player of the Month for the month of November, the Johnson & Wales Athletic Department announced on Thursday.
Ayulo, a native of Hollywood, Florida, finished the month averaging 18.9 points-per-game and 9.6 rebounds-per-contest. The second-year Wildcat led the team in assists (27) and steals (20) while recording four blocked shots and shooting a team-best 47.3 percent from the floor. Ayulo was named the Sun Conference Player of the Week (11/12) after posting the second triple-double in school history (Qurimisha Spence – 25 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists versus Trinity Baptist – 12/10/12). Ayulo scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists as JWU picked up its first win of the season, defeating Florida National, 68-54. She was also three steals shy of quadruple-double, posting seven steals versus the Conquistadores. It marked the 10th triple-double in the Sun Conference over the past 16 years and the first since the 2016-17 campaign. During the month, Ayulo registered five double-doubles, scoring in double-figures in all seven games, including three 20-point outings. On the year, Ayulo 19.3 points-per-game (No. 2 in the conference and No. 8 in the nation) on 48.6 percent shooting from the floor (No. 5 in the conference and No. 42 in the nation). She leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.4 boards-per-game (No. 6 in the conference and No. 48 in the nation). Ayulo also leads the Wildcats in steals (26) and assists (42).
Each month during the academic year, a JWU student-athlete will be selected as the Sergio's Cuban Café & Grill Player of the Month based on outstanding athletic accomplishments.
