NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (October 7, 2019) – Men's soccer sophomore Lucas Colodrero and volleyball senior Sharell Nairn have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending October 6 announced on Monday.
The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top-performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month.
Colodrero, a sophomore forward, notched his first goal of the season in a 2-1 win at Webber International on Sunday. The game-winner, recording in the 76th minute help JWU to its first win of the season. Colordrero connected on a corner kick from Nicolas Gomez to break a 1-1 tie late in the game. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, scored on his only shot attempt of the afternoon. On the year, Colodrero has appeared in five matches with one goal (two points) on seven shots (three on goal).
Narin, a senior middle blocker, finished last week with 37 kills, averaging 4.11 kills-per-set for the Wildcats. The native of Miami, Florida, began the week with 14 kills versus FNU with a hitting percentage of .225. She corralled 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season as JWU earned the program's first win over the Conquistadors, 3-0. It marked Nairn's 100th match with the Wildcats. A day later, became the first Wildcat in JWU history to record 1000-career points, posting 11 kills, five service aces, and one solo block to record 17.0 points versus Ave Maria to increase her career total to 1,000.5. Nairn also recorded 12 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. She ended the week with 12 kills and 14 digs at Coastal Georgia for her ninth double-double of 2019. On the year, Narin has recorded 209 kills (3.80 kps – No. 2 in the conference) with 198 digs (3.6 dps – No. 7 in the conference) with 23 service aces (No. 10 in the conference) and 18 total blocks.
Honorable mention: Denise Mendoza (women's soccer) – helped lead JWU to a 1-1 mark in conference play this past week, recording 11 saves and finishing the week with a 3.00 goals-against-average; Savannah Jackson (women's soccer) – Added two more goals to her season total (24) this past week as JWU went 1-1 in Sun Conference play; Vanessa Orozco (Volleyball) – recorded 66 assists, becoming the first player in JWU history to have 1,000 assists in a career; Bianca Torres (volleyball) – Registered 25 digs en route to becoming the first player in JWU history to record 1,000 digs in a career.
