Savannah Jackson and Alex Marciulonis Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week (Week 8)

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (October 15, 2019) – Women's soccer junior Savannah Jackson and men's soccer sophomore Alex Marciulonis have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending October 13 announced on Tuesday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top-performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Jackson, a junior forward, was named this week's Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six goals and recording one assist as JWU earned a pair of Sun Conference victories this past week. The native of Winter Haven, Florida, began the week with her seventh hat trick of the season, scoring three goals in a 5-1 win at Ave Maria on Wednesday. During the match, she scored her 70th-career goal which was ultimately the game-winner (her seventh of the season) in the 29th minute. Later in the week, Jackson broke the school record for most goals in a single season, recording Nos. 28, 29, and 30 versus Webber International (3-0 W). Jackson's hat trick – her eighth of the season and 12th of her career – guided JWU to its fourth-straight home victory. She broke the record she set last season with her second goal of the game (29th minute). On the year, Jackson leads the nation in total goals (30), goals per game (2.73), total game-winning goals (8), game-winning goals per game (0.73), and total points (62).

Marciulonis, a sophomore goalkeeper, was named the Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the JWU men's soccer team go undefeated in Sun Conference play this past week (1-0-1), allowing just three goals in 202 minutes if action (1.50 GAA) with 10 total saves. The native of Wellington, Florida, began the week notched one save to pick up his second-straight victory as JWU defeated Ave Maria 2-1 in overtime. On Saturday, Marciulonis registered a career-high nine saves as the Wildcats battled the No. 9-ranked Southeastern Fire to a 2-2 (2OT) draw. On the year, Marciulonis owns a 2-4-1 record with a 2.50 goals-against-average with 32 saves and a save percentage of .653.

Honorable mention: Ashlyn Hannus (women's soccer) – Led a JWU backline allowed just one goal in two games this past week as JWU picked up a pair of Sun Conference victories; Fernando Arzeno (men's soccer) – led JWU with two goals this past week as the Wildcats went undefeated in Sun Conference play (1-0-1);Vanessa Orozco (Volleyball) – Ended this past week with 120 assists, averaging 10.91 assist-per-set as JWU picked up two conference wins; Bianca Torres (volleyball) – Ended this past week, producing 53 digs, averaging 4.82 digs-per-set as JWU picked up two conference wins; Sharell Nairn (Volleyball) – Ended the week with 73 kills, averaging 6.64 kills-per-set with a hitting percentage of .280 as JWU picked up two conference wins.
