Fernando Arzeno and Ashlyn Hannus Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week (Week 9)

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (October 21, 2019) – Men's soccer sophomore Fernando Arzeno and women's soccer junior Ashlyn Hannus have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending October 20 announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top-performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Arzeno, a sophomore forward, scored a goal and registered two assists this past week as JWU extended its unbeaten streak to five games. The native of Buenos Aries, Argentina, registered four points (1g, 2a) at Florida Memorial in a 3-1 Wildcat win on Wednesday. Having a hand in all three scores, Arzeno helped JWU pick up a much-needed conference win. Later in the week, Arzeno led JWU with two shots in a defensive battle at SCAD Savannah (0-0, 2OT draw). On the year, Arzeno leads JWU with four goals and three assists for 11 points. He has recorded 22 total shots with nine of them on frame.

Hannus, a junior defender, helped JWU finish the week 1-0-1 in conference play. Hannus led a defense that held Florida Memorial to just eight shots in a 9-0 shutout win for the Wildcats. It marked the sixth clean sheet of the season and gave JWU its 10th win of the season (second-straight year). The native of Puyallup, Washington, also tallied two goals (her first multi-goal game as a Wildcat) versus the Lions. Later in the week, Hannus led a backline the held off a very aggressive SCAD Savannah squad in check, leading the Wildcats to a point in the Sun Conference standings. On the year, Hannus has totaled three goals a two assist for eight points. With her leading the defense, JWU has recorded a 1.51 GAA this season.
