NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (December 19, 2019) – Men's soccer goalkeeper Alex Macriulonis has been named the Sergio's Cuban Café & Grill Player of the Month for the month of November, the Johnson & Wales Athletic Department announced on Thursday.
Marciulonis, a sophomore from Wellington, Florida, was one of the main reasons for the men's soccer program's historic run to the Sun Conference Championship match in 2019. The first-year Wildcat registered 23 saves in four matches during the month, averaging 5.75 saves-per-match. The All-TSC Honorable Mention selection, guided JWU to a 2-1 win at Thomas in the TSC Quarterfinals, registering six saves. Marciulonis topped that performance, producing seven saves at St. Thomas in the semifinals, sending the Wildcats to their first-ever TSC Finals appearance, stopping Frederico Zanna's shootout attempt on the Bobcat's sixth and final PK attempt (1-1 draw, JWU advances on PKs, 4-3). On the year, the two-time Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week registered a 4-7-4 record with one shutout and a 1.88 goals-against-average. Marciulonis registered 78 saves in 2019 with a save percentage of .729.
Each month during the academic year, a JWU student-athlete will be selected as the Sergio's Cuban Café & Grill Player of the Month based on outstanding athletic accomplishments.
