Dante Pace and Tianna Ayulo Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week (Week 18)

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (December 23, 2019) – Men's basketball freshman Dante Pace and women's basketball junior Tianna Ayulo have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending December 22 announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top-performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Pace, a freshman guard, helped guide JWU to back-to-back wins this past week, with victories over (rv) Saint Xavier (102-95, 2OT) and NCAA Division III Mitchell College (83-75). The native of Miami, Florida, averaged 27.5 points this past week, shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and 44.0 percent from 3-point range. Pace began the week, scoring a game-high 33 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including seven treys versus the Cougars on Tuesday evening. He was also a perfect 8-of-8 from the line. The 30-point outing was the first by a Wildcat since the 2017-18 season (Isa Brandon – 34 points at Thomas on 1/18/18). The first-year Wildcat wrapped up the 2019 calendar year with 22 points as JWU defeated the Mariners for the team's second-straight victory. Pace shot 9-of-18 from the floor while dishing out two assists and recording a team-high four steals. On the year, Pace is averaging 15.7 points-per-game (No. 10 in the conference) on 38.5 percent shooting from the field and 36.0 percent shooting from beyond the arc (No. 5 in the conference.  

Ayulo, a junior forward, guided JWU to a 2-1 record this past week, improving the Wildcats to 9-1 on the year – the best start to a season in JWU women's basketball history. The native of Hollywood, Florida, averaged 16.0 points-per-game and 9.7 rebounds-per-contest with 11 assists, and nine steals. Ayulo began the week with 10 points and seven boards versus Cumberland (Tenn.) to extend JWU's unbeaten streak to eight games. Two days later, despite suffering the team's first loss of the season, Ayulo notched her third double-double of the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 boards versus Texas Wesleyan. The third-year Wildcat closed out the week posting 14 points and registering nine rebounds as JWU defeated NCAA Division III foe SUNY-Poly on Friday. On the year, Ayulo is averaging 15.8 points-per-game (No. 49 in the nation and No. 6 in the conference) and 7.8 rebounds-per-contest (No. 11 in the conference). With 28 steals on the year, Ayulo is averaging 2.8 per contest (No. 23 in the nation and No. 4 in the contest) while ranking No. 5 in the conference in assists per game (3.5).
