Alex Doane and Tianna Ayulo Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week (Week 22)

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (January 20, 2020) – Men's basketball freshman Alex Doane and women's basketball junior Tianna Ayulo have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending January 19 announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top-performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Doane, a freshman guard, helped lead the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team to a 1-1 mark this past week, averaging 21.0 points-per-game on 45.5 percent shooting. The native of Boca Raton, Florida, drained a team-high eight 3-pointers this past week, shooting 34.8 percent from beyond the arc. Doane also collected six rebounds and dished out two assists. Doane began the week posting 22 points in a 71-64 win over Florida Memorial, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor, including four from 3-point range for his third 20-point outing of the 2019-20 season. He followed that up with 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the floor at St. Thomas. He drained four 3-pointers and grabbed four rebounds versus the Bobcats. On the year, Doane is averaging 14.8 points-per-game on 43.6 percent shooting from the field. He leads the team with 59 made treys (No. 20 in the nation), averaging 3.7 made 3-pointers-per-game (No. 7 in the nation). He also leads the team in total assists (48).

Ayulo, a junior forward, averaged a double-double this past week as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team improved to 13-4. Receiving votes in the Top 25 for the first time in program history, JWU extended its current winning streak to three games with a pair of conference victories last week. Ayulo averaged 27.0 points-per-game and 12.0 rebounds-per-contest, notching fourth and fifth double-doubles of the 2019-2020 campaign. The native of Hollywood, Florida, also recorded eight assists, five steals and two blocked shots while shooting 52.5 percent from the floor. Ayulo opened the week posting 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds versus the Florida Memorial Lions. She shot 10-of-20 from the floor while dishing out five assists. Two days later, Ayulo scored a season-high 31 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field at St Thomas. She grabbed a game-high 13 and recorded three assists, four steals, and two blocked shots. On the year, Ayulo is averaging 17.1 points-per-game (No. 2 in the conference and No. 28 in the nation) and 7.6 rebounds-per-contest (No. 11 in the conference). She is second on the team in steals (45 – No. 5 in the conference and No. 45 in the nation), averaging 2.65 per game (No. 4 in the conference and No. 26 in the nation). The team leader in assists (61 – No. 6 in the conference), Ayulo is averaging 3.59 assists-per-game (No. 4 in the conference and No. 45 in the nation).
