Kevin Rostamian and Alexis McClain Named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week (Week 24)

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (February 3, 2020) – Men's basketball sophomore Kevin Rostamian and women's basketball junior Alexis McClain have been named JWU Athletics Wildcats of the Week for the week ending February 2 announced on Monday.

The Wildcats of the Week honor is a weekly award given to the top-performing student-athlete among the 11 intercollegiate sports sponsored at JWU. Awarded to the top male and female student-athlete each week by the JWU Athletic Department, those named the Wildcat of the Week will become eligible to be named the Sergio's Player of the Month for the corresponding month. 

Rostamian, a sophomore forward, averaged a double-double for the Wildcats this past week, scoring 10.5 points-per-game and averaging 13.0 rebounds-per-contest. The native of Weston, Florida, shot 53.3 percent from the floor while recording three assists, two steals, and a team-high six blocked shots. The first-year Wildcat began the week posting 10 points and eight rebounds versus Warner. Rostamian also registered a season-high four blocked shots versus the Royals. Later in the week, the JWU forward notched his sixth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds versus the Webber International Warriors. Rostamian was 5-of-7 from the floor and recorded a game-high two blocked shots in that contest. On the year, Rostamian is averaging 8.1 points-per-game and 8.8 rebounds-per-contest (No. 4 in the conference and No. 28 in the nation). Shooting 50.5 percent from the field, Rostamian leads JWU with 21 blocked shots in 2019-2020.

McClain, a junior forward, helped the Wildcats to a 1-1 mark in Sun Conference action this past week, averaging 11.0 points-per-game and 5.5 rebounds-per-contest. The native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, shot 52.9 percent from the floor while dishing out three assists, making three steals, and recording four blocked shots. McClain began the week scoring eight points and grabbing seven boards as JWU picked up its school-record ninth conference win of the season with a 59-46 win over Warner. The third-year Wildcat notched two assists and two steals while recording three blocked shots versus the Royals. Two days later, McClain led the Wildcats with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting at Webber International. On the year, McClain is averaging 8.7 points-per-game and 3.9 rebounds-per-contest. She leads the team with 28 total blocked shots, averaging 1.4 blocks-per-game (No. 4 in the conference and No. 37 in the nation).
