The hot shooting men's basketball team took down the visiting Lions by the score of 79-73 in a Sun Conference matchup.
Both teams came out firing as they exchanged multiple lead changes. JWU settled in on offense and defense in the first half and took a 46-37 lead into the lockeroom behind the play of Jr. Myles Smith (Davie FL) and Sr Joseph Lopez (Northport FL).
The Cats stretched the lead to as many as 14pts in the second half however they had to hold off a furious run by FMU who eventually cut the lead to 73-70 with under a minute to go. However Smith and Lopez stepped up with the biggest plays of the game. Smith hit a driving layup with 30 seconds left with Lopez stealing to ball seconds later to put the Cats up 77-70 with 23 seconds left to secure the win. Smith led the way with 24 pts and Lopez finished with 16pts and 9 rebounds.
The Wildcats (11-10) travel to Northwood University to take on the #7 team in the NAIA on Wed. January 23.
